Lower Dolpo Trek

The Dolpo region lies further north from the Dhaulagiri Range in the rain shadow of the Himalayas – reflected in the colorful barren slopes of the mountains where the play of light and shadow is a perpetual fascinating spectacle. Dolpo region has survived its originality for centuries. Dolpo region became famous for the outside world when Film Director Eric Valli, came up with the film “Caravan” which got nominated for prestigious Oscar Award. Along with the view of spectacular landscapes, the movie in glance provided the image of the culture and traditions practiced in the region, the simplicity they possess, etc. This region is home of the deepest Himalayan Lakes in the world, the Phoksundo.

The Lower Dolpo trek is a perfect trek for trekkers wishing for an off-the-beaten-path experience. It was only in 1990 that this remote region in western Nepal was opened for the foreigners. The trek passes through Shey-Phoksundo National Park with spectacular mountain scenery, Buddhist monasteries and yak caravans.
